Can I view the scrolls on this website?
No, not in their entirety. We can’t find a website that will host such large files in the detail that is necessary for proper study. However, the good news is that you can download them from this website. The files are available in two formats: PDF and TIF. Both versions are exceptionally large, however the TIFF versions are typically smaller (and in the 12-23 MB range). Click “Download Scroll Files", above, for directions on how to download the documents.
Where can I obtain a hard copy of the scrolls?
That is going to be a challenge. The paper copies are each about 15+ feet in length and most are in poor condition. Our goal in digitizing the scrolls was to make them available for Dorrance researchers such as yourself, preserve the material, and alleviate the need for the paper versions.
How do I read the Scrolls?
The scrolls are typically read starting at the very top left hand corner with the original Dorrance ancestor. His children are listed in the second column and continuing on to the right, with the newest Dorrance members typically listed at the very far right hand side.
See the example below.
The files are large and hard to navigate!
Yes, they are exceptionally large. At this time, we don’t have a search feature in any of the documents. If, by chance, you are interested in helping us with the task of creating a search feature [smart PDF], we would be very grateful of the assistance. Please contact sdorrance@gmail.com. Thank you!
I can’t find my ancestor. Can you find him/her for me?
Sorry, but if you can't find your ancestor then we probably can’t either. We would, however, recommend that you head on over to our Resources page for other Dorrance sites that might prove helpful.
